Haha, this lesson was funny.

I have a question though, and it's one I should have asked in a previous lesson on phone numbers. How come instead of yi, they said yao?

By the way, I do not mean to offend anyone. Like I said, my uncle has enforced a lot of ideas on me. It is very likely that I am completely biased.

Oh, I see your point.

I'm actually very heavily influenced by my friend deemed uncle, who is very passionate about the differences between Taiwan and China. The sophistication comment comes from there as well. However, I do agree with it to some extent. I just feel, unfortunately, that Taiwan is of a higher class. This is probably due to the language differences (spoken language sounds a lot better and written language is harder).

I don't know what the Chinese people think, but I know for a fact Taiwanese don't consider themselves a part of China. Having grown up there, I agree with their mentality--Taiwan is its own country, and in no way a part of China. They're way more sophisticated (again, this is Taiwan's POV). And plus, even their writing is different; instead of simplified, they use traditional. There are other things, but in many ways, the Taiwanese consider themselves independent.

Well, 都 means "all", and 没看到 means "didn't see", so the 什么 in the beginning would translate to either "anything" or "Everything."

东西 is "stuff," and though it might make sense to say "All the stuff I did not see," it doesn't make as much sense as "Everything/anything I did not see."

I'm sorry, this is a really bad explanation. :/ But I hope I helped at least a little bit!
